Welcome to WEVS

The West End Village Society was originally founded in 1973 as a non-political, volunteer-led village community organisation open to all West End residents. Our wide-ranging brief includes preserving and enhancing our local heritage and natural environment.

WEVS aims to work with residents, organisations and businesses in order to:
– Stimulate interest and involvement in village affairs
– Preserve the history and heritage of the village
– Assess and comment upon planning and related issues
– Participate in the formulation of Local Plans
– Arrange public events, such as lectures and walks
– Establish a major activity each year as Project of the Year
– Forge links with other West End organisations.

We welcome members from in and around the West End area. As a member, you will receive regular newsletters covering news and events in and around West End and updates regarding our activities.

West End Village is in the heart of Surrey Heath, approximately 25 miles southwest of central London.

Coming up

West End Fete 2025

West End’s 2025 village fete is set to take place on the Recreation Ground on Saturday, 14 June at 1pm.

WEVS will have a stall at the fete as usual. Everyone is welcome to come along to catch up on news, view the West End History Project displays and more.

Looking back

Daffodil Walk

The annual Daffodil Walk around West End took in the brilliant display of daffodils we had again this year. Thirty intrepid walkers set off from the Rosewood Way car park on Sunday, 23 March, in very wet weather.
Most stayed the course and enjoyed the hospitality of the Hare & Hounds.

2025 AGM

WEVS’ 2025 AGM was held in the Sports Pavilion on Tuesday, 18th February.
The meeting included introducing and demonstrating our 2025 Project of the Year, the West End History Project.
It was followed by a talk by Tony Painter on “The History and Mystery of Maps”.

Boxing Day Walk 2024

Sixty-seven walkers set off from Tringham Hall and the Hare & Hounds in pleasant weather to take part in the WEVS Boxing Day Walk. A few took the shortcut home at the halfway point, but the rest walked the full 3 miles back to the Hare & Hounds for some well-earned refreshments.

Remembrance Day 2024

The Act of Remembrance took place at the West End War Memorial on Sunday, 10 November 2025, at 10:55 a.m. It was preceded by a Remembrance Sunday Service in Holy Trinity Church at 10 a.m.
The WEVS committee laid a wreath at the War Memorial on behalf of the members.

Community Orchard

It’s been a good 2024 for the West End Village Community Orchard in the Windlemere SANG just off Blackstroud Lane. The vast majority of trees have flourished, and as autumn set in the crabapple tree (Malus Red Sentinel) bore its first fruit.

West End Walks

West End is ideally situated between Bisley, Lightwater and Chobham and borders onto Brentmoor Heath and the Windlemere SANG. There are many ways to enjoy nature and wildlife. Explore on your own or join one of our walks.
